It was mom’s Chinese birthday yesterday, the 14th day of Hungry Ghost Festival. So we [mom, dad, brother & girlfriend, me & him, aunty Owyong and 3rd Aunt - mom's sister] had dinner here:

I think including yesterday, I’ve been to this restaurant 3 times. This restaurant serves Authentic Taiwanese Cuisine. So if you’re looking for Taiwanese food, you may give this place a try. Everybody’s taste bud is different so no harm trying right?

Currently they are having this Summer Promotion which I think mom ordered last night. The promotion is valid till Merdeka Day @ 31 Aug 2011, so hurry up! if you want to try! For more information, please go to the website or call them.

We had:

1. Formosa Special Two Combination Dish 宝岛特色双拼 [can choose any 2 of the selections] so mom chose Fried Butter Eel Taiwanese Style 宝岛奶油鳗 and Taiwanese Famous Three-cup New Zealand Half Shell Mussels (No pollution) 台湾著名三杯孔雀蚌(无污染). I had 2 mussels but not enough to satisfy me. The eels were ok but the texture doesn’t seem to satisfy me either. Maybe the portion of the dish is just too little to satisfy me.. They used curry leaves for the eels which something that I never thought I would see te leaves in Taiwanese dish.
2. * Seaweed soup with minced pork & bean curd & eggs 紫菜肉碎豆腐蛋花汤
   Add on RM45 upgrade to Simmered Winter Melon Soup (save RM15) (order 2 days in advance) 附加 RM45可换成冬瓜盅(节省RM15 )(二天前预订）. We had the Simmered Winter Melon Soup instead. The chicken meat in the soup was soft and tender and bite sized. The soup is clear and acceptable because I don’t like drinking soup that the Chef used too much ingredients in it. The only thing I don’t like is the person who served us the soup. Very like not trained at all.
3. * Taiwanese Fried Sesame Chicken & Pipa Duck, roasted duck with longan
   Add Rm8 to upgrade to Feng Sha chicken, roasted chicken stuffed with 8 treasures or black pepper trotters (order one day in advance) 台式芝麻鸡配龙眼琵琶鸭 *附加RM8.00 可换成风沙鸡(八宝酿烧鸡)或黑胡椒猪手(一天前预订). I think we had duck only and I didn’t know it came with longan sauce, not until I ate the longan. I don’t like this dish because I find the duck meat a bit too dry for me, even with the sauce.
4. Grilled prawns stuffed with Special Garlic Paste 蒜茸焗虾. I had a few sticks because nobody wants to eat anymore. I quite like this, maybe because of the garlic. We’re giveing bowls of tea [I think] to wash our fingers and I had to warn him not to drink them. There was once! he nearly drink it! The prawns were a bit skinny to satisfy me so the best is to eat more when nobody wants anymore.
5. Yam Basket with Fried Fritters & Pork Slices in Black Pepper Sauce & Almond Flakes 佛钵飘香. Some parts uncooked and very salty. The lady boss took the dish back into the kitchen and thinking in our minds, she microwaved it. She should have just make a new one for us. Never like yam so had 1 slice only [the basked was cut for easier consumption].
6. Steamed Local Sea Bass, Siakap Hong Kong Teochew style港式潮州蒸金目鲈鱼. I don’t know what fish we had but is Teochew style because I saw tomatoes, salted vegetable, etc… and the fish is definitely small, not fresh and overcooked.
7. Braised Stuffed lotus roots with Special Fish Paste, loofah & Japanese seaweed. 酿莲藕. The so called special fish paste is so nipis! No fishy smell.
8. Braised  Vermicelli Taiwanese Style (with meat, mushrooms, cabbage and shrimps) 台式卤面线. Not sure if this is the Mee Suah we had because I can’t read the Chinese wordings. Never like mee suah because I find it too slimy.
9. Taiwanese Famous Hand-made MuaChi, glutinous rice pieces coated with selected peanuts powder & icing sugar 台湾著名手工. Came in bite sized. I ate a few pieces.
10. Sweet Yam in Honey Sauce Taiwanese Style 拔丝芋头. Is actually yam coated with honey. I don’t fancy eating yam but still I tried.
11. Chinese Tea, Rice 中国茶,白饭. I didn’t eat rice, only brother and him. I’m not a rice person. Whether you want rice or not, is in the bill.
12. No service charge, No Corkage charge. 免服务费，免开瓶费.

There are 2 sets that you can choose from. I don’t know how much mom paid so I don’t know which set is it. We arrived [us only] about 30 minutes early after work so we slept in the car. Some more it was raining when we reached the place.
